New Windows Task Manager for Win 3.1

Hi Windows freaks.

I have just uploaded a new replacement of the Windows’ task manager
to the following sites:

ftp.cica.indiana.edu   /pub/pc/win3/uploads
garbo.uwasa.fi         /win31/incoming
wuarchive.wustl.edu    /pub

The file TM.ZIP contains the executable files and the help file,
TM.TXT contains a short description of its features.

Below is the contents of TM.TXT:

====BEGIN OF TM.TXT==================================================
TaskMan v1.0, Shareware version,
(c) 1992 Guenter Schwaninger. All rights reserved.

Requires Windows 3.1 !!

TaskMan is not just another simple replacement of Windows’ task manager,
but a powerful, easy to use tool with the following properties:

-stays on top until you close it (configurable)
-updates the tasklist automatically (configurable)
-lets you configure its tasklist to exclude tasks from being displayed
-provides a simple commandline interface (CLI)
-lets you start programs via Windows standard file selector
-points out DOS tasks as such
-unloads DOS tasks immediately on demand
-shows the modulelist with all currently loaded tasks and DLLs,
also shows the reference counts and the names of the disk files
-lets you unload DLLs from memory (interresting for programmers)
-shows special taskinfo, i.e. task-, windows- and instancehandle,
 classname, window text
-lets you exit Windows, restart Windows or boots your system
-provides contextsensitive help system via F1

Of course, TaskMan does all the things the Windows’ task manager does.
This includes cascading and tiling windows and arranging icons.

Mouse in a DOS windows

I am trying to get the mouse to work with DOS programs that are
running in a window.  I read the manual, and it says to check out a readme
file… well… I didn’t install them (being low on space).
Could someone mail me that readme file?  I don’t want to have to dig
my install disks out of the mess at home and drag them to the office.
        Thanks in advance.

Which RAM-configuration for Win3.1 ???

Hello

I have a question about configurating my computer to run with WINDOWS 3.1.:
My system is:

- 386SX, 16MHz
– 5MB RAM, 400K of this is needed for shadow ram to speed up my sistem,
  so 4,6MB for use
– 43MB-harddisk, I don’t know the speed
– MS-DOS 5.0
– WINDOWS 3.1

So, how to configure this system, how much RAM for cache (smartdrv),
how much extended or expanded or somewhat like that…

Any informations wanted..

Thanks in advance.
Frank

WinQVTNet 2.6 and SLIP8250 problems!

Okay, having been contacted by the author of SLIP8250, it turns out that
EtherSLIP is one rev back from SLIP8250 and therefore will not run under
Windows 3.1.  Now I am attempting to use SLIP8250, and am able to get
up and functioning.  HOWEVER, once I start to type into a telnet window (sometimes I make it a minute or so), WinQVTNet 2.6 (and 2.3) die with a
General Protection Fault at 0004:3A44 in WNQVTNET.EXE.  If I try to invoke
WinQVTNet again, it just complains about this GPF.  I have to bring down
Windows completely before it starts to work again.

I have followed all the instructions in the documentation (FILE, BUFFERS at
least 30, environment at least 1024).  I am on a 386-33, Windows 3.1, Norton
Desktop (although I have tried when booted with Program Manager), Tseng
ET4000 video with Windows 3.1 drivers.

Anyone have any ideas on this?  I think WinQVTNet is a very slick program and
would enjoy being able to use it.  Thanks in advance.

WinQVT and news reader

Ok, I’ve read the docs, done what they said, and still when I pull
up the Services option on the menus my News option is grayed out.
I’ve had our sys admin set up my address to read mail, put the server
address in the .rc file.  I don’t have a newsgroups file in my QVT
directory though.  Is this where my problem lies?  What is the format
of the newsrc file anyway?  (I guess that’s a another question)

Win 3.1 & Thinkjet printing problem

Does anyone know where to find a working HP ThinkJet driver for Windows
3.1? The one that comes with 3.1 doesn’t seem to work quite right. A big
chunk of columns on the right side of the page is missing when printed on
the Thinkjet. I believe it has something to do with the fact that the
ThinkJet has forced 1" margins on the sides (can’t print in those margin
zones). I also have an HP DeskJet and everything prints fine on that
printer.

Barcode 3of9 truetype font. Poor output..

The output of the Code3of9 barcode font (BARCOD39.ZIP) I downloaded from
cica is REALLY bad!  The bars for each character grouping print to close
together.  I tried printing on PostScript and HP LaserJet printers with
identical results.

No, it won’t scan properly.  I tried to use the "@" character as the start
and end characters.

Any ideas?

DOS Apps in Window very slow

We just installed win 3.1 on one of our machines and
dos programs in a window run significantly slower than
on our other comparable machines running 3.1.

I seem to remember doing something to fix this in the
past but I can’t remember what.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated. (Please use
e-mail)
