I have elected to use only TrueType fonts and have checked the
little box that allows applications to list on the TT fonts.
However, the default font is still Times Roman (not a TT font),
and I’d like it to be Times New Roman… As it is now, I have
to change fonts everytime I start an application.
Any suggestions?

[Please note: I am not sure as to which newsgroup this post should
be in. I just found 2 windows's groups in my .newsrc]
I have just upgraded to a 386sx-25 (from a 286-12) and windows 3.0
doesn’t work anymore… Brief description of what happens…
C:\> win
(Get opening screen, screen clears, and nothing else happens..
Alt-Ctl-Del… Nothing. Reset switch…)
I have also re-installed win 3.0 to make sure that the enhanced
mode kernel & other 386 enh. drivers are there, but it still happens..
Is there a file that I am missing somewhere? (What is that wina20.386
that comes with DOS 5??)
=== Drivers Loaded ===
HIMEM.SYS
ANSI.SYS (actually, it’s nansi.sys)
STACKER (2.0)
MOUSE.COM (ms 8.20)
sigh…

Is there anyway that one could take a snap shot image
of a graphic screen. Then resize it and use that as a
win 3.1 icon??

Hi Folks
As most of you registered users of AmiPro, I finally got the AmiPro 3.0
upgrade offer letter in the mail today. Well they’re charging 79 bucks for the
upgrade, but my question here is if it is worth it?
Let’s see now, first it has fast format. It says I’ll save some key-
strokes by copying one format, and applying it to other parts of the test. Nice
but I don’t think that is worth $79. Drag’nDrop looks like a nice feature for
moving text, but it isn’t an innovation, just a Drag’nDrop from MsWord.
SmartClick can give me a few more dialog boxes, but I already have them at a
mere 2 keystrokes, so I may not even take rust off my right mouse button.
I am a single user on a DOS machine so I don’t think I need the SmartMerger for
the mail. SmartIcon creator, well I already create SmartIcons and associate
them to keystrokes etc. Document and style sheet viewer? Well I have my
StyleSheets documented in a file and at a click of a mouse, so I guess I can
skip that. Automated label and envelop printing? Great, now I can get that 4/9in
envelop printed right at the first time, without all those trials and misprinted
envelops. A grammar corrector? How about my free copy of Right Writer, can’t I
live with that.
How about a TrueType fonnts Disk? How about some foreign language
dictionaries along with the basic package, since many of us might want to
write in Spanish or French etc. How about those innovations like SmartIcons for
2.0 release? Humm wondering why this isn’t just AmiPro2.005?
Well every thing from the upgrade letter seems so cosmetic that I am
having second thought about spending 79 bucks, any way I dilled their 800 number
and asked for the free demo copy. They promptly informed that I’ll get that by
mid August, may be after that I’ll change my mind. What do you guys think? Shell
we jump in the sea just because everyone has got to lay their hands on that
X^3 upgrade? All opinions and critique welcome, including those from Lotus insiders…

Anytime I try to run DOS programs that use the SoundBlaster under WIN 3.1
I get an error message from Windows that the SoundBlaster is already in
use by another application. (I assume it means Windows itself) My question
is: is there anything I can do (short of removing all sound drivers from
Windows) that will allow me to run DOS programs under Windows that use the
Soundblaster? I used to like to play some games under Windows 3.0 while I
was downloading or uploading files in the background. Can I temporarily
disable Win 3.1′s use of the SoundBlaster without having to restart
windows?

I’m having a little trouble running windows from PC’s that were network booted.
We are using FTP software boot-roms, and what it does is it downloads a disk
image over the network. It then creates a ramdisk from that disk image,
and boots that disk. Then when it is done, the image is removed to free up
the RAM. That works fine for most things, but when I try to run
Windows 3.1, it looks for emm386.exe in the now non-existant A: drive. Is there
a command line option, or an environment variable I can set to tell it to use
a different emm386.exe?

Whenever I print a document from Windows 3.1 to my DeskJet Plus, the descenders
don’t print. I have TrueType fonts, but I’ve also tried the non-TrueType
fonts, and their descenders don’t print, either. I’d appreciate any advice.
Please email any responses. Thanks in advance
