Windows 2k Server neben 2k Pro Installation

For the comp. and alt. NG’s: The following Text is in German because my
English is very bad.

Sorry for Mega-X-Post, set F’up 2 de.comp.os.ms-windows.nt

TIA

What exactly triggers "Not a dos disk"?

I have a peculiar problem with a multi-boot.  On the same machine, I have
Win98, Win3.1, and Linux.  They’re organized on two disks like this:

    1st Disk |–Dos7/Win98 (C: & E: thru H:)–||–Linux–(/Boot & /)—-|
    2nd Disk |–Dos6.22/Win3.1 (C: thru H:)||–Linux (Swap & /usr)——|

             (sizes not shown in proportion)

I use the Linux utilities Lilo or Grub to select at boot-time.  Both DOS7
(with its associated Win98) and Linux come up correctly with no fuss.  If
I use a boot floppy, Dos 6.22/Win3.1 comes up correctly with no fuss.  But,
if I try to boot to Dos 6.22 direct using Lilo, something very strange
happens.  It finds the proper C: partition on 2nd Disk, and runs the
CONFIG.SYS, loading everything including a ZIP100 a CDROM and a CDRW.
At that point it puts up an error message which says "Not a Dos disk".
If I tell it to F(ail) or I(gnore), it proceeds through the autoexec.bat
et al, looking normal, but what comes up is not.  I can see and use the
C: disk, and the I: (ZIP), J: (CDROM), and K: (CDRW), but D: through H:
are not visible.  What Lilo does (as far as I can figure it) is point
to first partition on the second drive, then it maps the first drive to
the second and the second to the first, so that C: will be on the "first"
(formerly 2nd disk).  Indeed, you can see this with PQMagic.  "Drive 1"
in PQM contains the partitions normally on Drive 2, and vice versa.

I doubt it matters, but the DOS partitions on the 1st drive are all
formatted FAT32, so they’re invisible to Win3.  The DOS partitions on
the 2nd drive, naturally, are FAT16, so both DOS systems can see them.
Linux, of course, can see them all.

What the blazes is it doing the causes the "not a DOS disk" error message
and the disappearance of all the Win3 partitions except C:?

All advice, explanations, and suggestions will be gratefully received.

Please Help! Screen Resolution too big to change!

Hello,

please help, I was playing a game on my Dell Dimension P733, ended the
program and my screen resolution has changed that all the icons are
HUGE.  I tried going into Control Panel to adjust the resolution, but
the icons are so big I cannot get to the area to change it.
Is there a way to adjust the resolution without going to Control
Panel?

thanks
Sean

Need help creating startup disk in ME

I recently acquired (from a colleague who moved to Europe) a Dell
Dimension 4100 running Windows ME.  I’m preparing to do some disk
cleanup and OS installations, so I thought I should create a startup
disk, just in case.

The startup disk creation procedure reported the following files could
not be found:

aspi2dos.sys
aspi4dos.sys
aspi8dos.sys
aspi8u2.sys
aspicd.sys
autoexec.ebd
btcdrom.sys
btdosm.sys
checksr.bat
command.ebd
config.ebd
ebd.cab
ebdundo.exe
extract.ebd
fdisk.exe
findramd.exe
fixit.ebd
flashpt.sys
hibinv.exe
himem.ebd
oakcdrom.sys
ramdrive.ebd
readme.ebd
setramd.ebd
winboot.ebd
ega3.cpi
mode.com
display.ebd
country.sys

I’d appreciate suggestions for how to proceed.  Please reply to this
group.  Thanks.

How to change the default location of Win help files ?

Hi !

It seems my drive C is nearly full and I urgently look for an opportunity to
move some files onto another direction. It would be great to move 22 MB help
file (current loc: C:\WinNT\Help) but the location information is somehow
boundled into the system (registry?), so the system requires this folder on
it’s default location. Any ideas how to change it ???

force an uninstall

I was trying to install some software on windows XP,
and install shield crashed out half way through.
I then tried to run the install again but it told me
it couldn’t because it was already installed.  I tried
to uninstall but it told me I couldn’t because the file
was corrupt.  I tried deleting all the obvious files,
but it still thought it was installed and wouldn’t let
me install.  Uninstall now says it can’t uninstall
because it can’t find the file (uninst.isu).  So what
the hell does one do in this circumstance?
