Missing drives in Windows98

I have an AOpen DVD RAM Drive, a Toshiba CD-ROM and Plextor CD Writer and
every drive apart from the Toshiba is not being displayed in My Computer or
in Device Manager.  However is I boot up into Safe Mode they are all there
in Device Manager.

Sometimes the drives appear in Windows, but today they are not being
displayed at all and I’ve not installed any hardware or software.

There are no conflicts in Device Manager that I can see.

Can anyone help?

Kol.

    Hi Kolin,

Open the Config.sys file with a text editor (Notepad or the DOS edit
command) and look for a line LastDrive=??? Allow at least one more drive
letter than all the drives you have starting with C ; as far as I can see
from what you mention you should wind up at G: unless you have partitioned
your HardDrive or you have more than one HD.

Set LastDrive to that letter and save the adjusted Config.sys file. If you
have no LastDrive entry, create one. The problem is that WIN defaults to
LastDrive=E if there is no entry.
You must reboot for the changes to go into effect.
