Hi –
I’m trying to figure out how to get my sound icon back in my system
tray. In control panel/multimedia the box where you’re supposed to be
able to check to say show icon in tray is grayed out.
I’ve pulled out the soundcard and then reinstalled it, and also
uninstalled and reinstalled the software for it. I can now use the
sound recorder, for instance, and open up the volume control through
it, but I would rather have the icon in the tray.
I was surprised to have the problem as the last time I had used this
computer the sound was fine. I had resorted to it because of probs
outlined in a separate message.

You may have install a windows 3.1 soundcard driver or the windows 9x
driver was not
installed properly.

Hi Kathy,
Click Start Settings Control Panel. In Control Panel dbl click Add/Remove
Progams. Click the Windows Setup tab. When finshed loading, navigate to
Multimedia and select it. Click the Details button. Navigate to the end of
the options to Volume Control and click the little box for a checkmark.
Close everything via The OK Button until you get back to the Control Panel.
Open Multimedia and click the box for Show the Volume Control…. so you
have a checkmark. You may have to reboot to make it effective.
