Startup lag in WinME

Hi.

I just installed WinME, and it all seemed fine for a while – until i started
getting a 60+ second lag at startup. At the point when windows seems
finished loading, when I doubleclick a shortcut to start a program, nothing
happens. So I try a few other apps, still nothing. I press ctr+alt+del, and
see them all running. I wait for about a minute, then the dam breaks and
they all start at the same time.

I’ve checked out my bootlog.txt with Bootlog Analyzer, and this line shows
up when I filter for delays:

16:38:23   67.72  Enumerated Standard diskettkontroller (BIOS\*PNP0700\0D)

(From the Norwegian ME version, it means standard disk controller, but you
probably figured :) )

As you can see, I get a 67 second delay on some operation concerning the
disk controller, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what’s causing
this delay. I’ve tried removing the controller drivers and have windows
reinstall them at startup, without result.

Can anyone tell me what this is about?

Everything else in my system works absolutely fine, so I don’t want to have
to reinstall windows without knowing that is the _only_ solution. (Btw, I
know that some apps cause conflicts in ME and I haven’t installed any of
them.)

My system:
Intel PII 400 Mhz
256 MB ram
DFI motherboard w/ Intel 440 BX/ZX chipset
NVidia Riva TNT2 Pro AGP video adapter

If you can help me, reply to group and cc me please.

Thanks a lot,

    -Lars-Erik
