I currently use the 16 color SVGA driver that came with Win3.1 but
would really like to have one which supports 256 colors. I have a
board with the Trident 8900 and the driver which came with Win3.0
doesn’t support fonts and mouse control in non-Windows apps under 3.1.
Does Microsoft have a ‘generic’ SVGA/256 color driver available?
Anyone else have a Trident board?
Thanks.

I called MS about a month ago asking for a generic SVGA 256 color driver.
They were supposed to get back to me in a couple of days. It’s May 11th
now so they either completely blew me off or they just use a different
time/calendar system. I don’t have a Trident board but check around(cica
wuarchive) because I thought I saw new Trident drivers somewhere.

There can’t be a generic 265 colour driver because it requires 512k of
RAM and a generic VGA card only has 256k. There may be generic VESA
drivers eventually if the card is VESA compliant.
However, having said that, there are 3.1 drivers out for the 8900. The
file is called trdwin31.zip. I got it from –
monu6.cc.monash.edu.au:/pub/Win3.0/drivers/video
There is also a copy of the latest (March) drivers for 3.0,
windrvc.zip there as well.
I don’t know how well they work as I only downloaded them yesterday.
